The Điện Biên People’s Committee declared that activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory received significant attention and participation from delegates and distinguished guests, including leaders and former leaders of the Party and State, and leaders of ministries, departments, and central agencies. Heads of provinces and cities, international visitors, central and local press agencies, and numerous domestic and foreign tourists also showed keen interest in the celebration.
The commemoration left a positive impression and favourable image of Điện Biên in public opinion. The anniversary garnered great response from the people of Điện Biên in particular and the entire country in general. A significant number of people travelled to Điện Biên, participating in many practical and meaningful activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, embodying the spirit of "The whole country turns to Điện Biên – Điện Biên with the whole country".
According to provincial statistics from January 1 to May 7 this year, Điện Biên warmly welcomed over one million tourists, including 4,800 international visitors. Total revenue from tourism activities reached nearly VNĐ1.9 trillion (US$74.5 million).
During the meeting, delegates discussed and shared opinions to further clarify the results achieved and the experiences learned in organising the anniversary. Visitors were particularly impressed by the heroic, enthusiastic, and hospitable spirit of Điện Biên Phủ.
Speaking at the meeting, provincial Party Secretary Trần Quốc Cường affirmed that the anniversary was successfully held. He emphasised that the foremost lesson learned from this success was the unanimous determination of the Steering Committee and the people throughout the province. He noted that while significant progress had been made, the road ahead was still long, and it was essential to complete projects for the people. These projects include bringing electricity to rural households and conserving and restoring monuments to create a "boost" for tourism.
Provincial Party Secretary Trần Quốc Cường proposed that following this event, agencies and units must maintain their enthusiasm, build on the achieved results, and develop new initiatives for socio-economic development, particularly in tourism, to make Điện Biên a highlight of northwest tourism. He emphasised the importance of combining various types of tourism to meet the diverse needs of future visitors.
Regarding the provincial report’s contents, he requested that the Party Committee of the provincial People's Committee incorporate all opinions from the delegates at the conference and conduct thorough and in-depth assessments of both successes and shortcomings to learn from experiences. He also highlighted the importance of recognising initiatives in logistics, education, and security, and proposed that these be considered for rewards.
