Điện Biên delegation visits Caen Memorial Museum in France

ĐBP – On 19 November, as part of their visit to France, a delegation from Điện Biên Province, led by Provincial People’s Committee Chairman Lê Thành Đô, visited the Caen Memorial Museum. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the museum’s director, Mr. M. Kléber Arhoul, alongside representatives from Caen’s city administration and the French Development Agency (AFD).

Chairman of the Điện Biên Provincial People’s Committee, Lê Thành Đô, provided an overview of Điện Biên Province and introduced the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum. He also summarised the outcomes of cultural and tourism cooperation between Điện Biên and the French Embassy in Việt Nam.

The province expressed its hope that the Caen War Memorial Museum could assist in researching and collecting documents, artefacts, photographs, and items such as vehicles, weapons, equipment, military gear, and maps related to the French Army during the Battle of Điện Biên Phủ (1953–1954).

Điện Biên also sought support and knowledge sharing in organising and displaying artefacts, particularly outdoor exhibitions of large-scale military equipment and vehicles. The delegation requested expertise in conserving and maintaining artefacts and preserving large oil paintings, as well as guidance on managing and curating war memory themes to promote tourism, historical research, and initiatives for peace, cooperation, and development.

During the meeting with the Điện Biên delegation, representatives of the Caen War Memorial Museum provided an overview of the museum and shared experiences in collaborating on historical science seminars and organising research programmes for students and pupils to explore historical science.

Following the discussions, both sides agreed to prepare the necessary content and conditions, in accordance with regulations, to formalise a cooperation agreement in the near future.
