Tuần Giáo makes efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses

ĐBP - In an effort to support disadvantaged households facing housing difficulties, ensuring they have stable and secure homes to focus on economic development and achieve sustainable poverty alleviation, Tuần Giáo district, Điện Biên province has been implementing flexible measures to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for the poor in the area.

The family of Quàng Thị Biện, born in 1962 in Kéo hamlet, Chiềng Sinh commune (Tuần Giáo district), is among hundreds of households in the commune receiving assistance under Decision No.150/QĐ-UBND issued on January 24, 2025, by the provincial People’s Committee. The policy aims to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing for poor and near-poor households in 2025.

Local authorities are actively assisting families in moving into their new homes.

For years, Biện and her youngest son’s family lived in a deteriorating house, fearing every heavy rain or strong wind. Entering 2025, her family has received financial support along with help from relatives and fellow villagers. They are now building a Level 4 house with a total area of over 100sq.m, costing approximately VND 500 million. The house is expected to be completed by June 2025, providing a significant boost for her family to stabilize their lives and focus on economic development.

Lường Văn Hải, Vice Chairman of the Chiềng Sinh commune People’s Committee, emphasized that eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is a key initiative to improve the living conditions of ethnic minorities and reduce the income gap. The commune has implemented practical approaches to mobilize and guide poor households in leveraging state and community support to build and renovate their homes.

Quàng Thị Biện’s family is building a new house.

In 2025, 31 poor and near-poor households in the commune will receive assistance to eliminate temporary housing, two families of war veterans and martyrs’ relatives will be supported in building or renovating homes, and 16 households will receive aid under Project 5 of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for 2021-2025.

The family of Quàng Văn Yên, from Cọ hamlet, is among the poorest in Quài Nưa commune. Despite his old age, Yên remains the primary breadwinner, struggling daily to make ends meet and never expecting to own a solid home. With financial aid from the state and support from fellow villagers, he decided to construct a Level 4 house at an estimated cost of VND 300 million. After over a month of construction, his family is about to move into a sturdy new home that will significantly improve their living conditions.

Quàng Văn Yên’s long-awaited dream of a stable home is becoming a reality.

Over the years, thanks to flexible coordination in allocating resources from various housing support programs, such as the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Regions, Tuần Giáo district has made notable progress in eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing.

Bạc Cầm Trưởng, Deputy Head of the district’s Economic and Infrastructure Office, stated that in 2025 alone, 49 families of war veterans and martyrs’ relatives have received new or renovated homes, including 23 newly built and 26 repaired houses. Meanwhile, 367 new homes are being constructed under the Sustainable Poverty Reduction Program. Moving forward, the district will continue strengthening monitoring and evaluation efforts to ensure the program’s effectiveness, aiming to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing by June 30, 2025.

A task force has been formed to reassess temporary and dilapidated houses, ensuring accurate, fair, and comprehensive support distribution.

These sturdy new homes, built with the support of the Party, the State, and the compassion of the community, hold deep humanitarian significance. With secure housing, poor households can settle down and find the motivation to escape poverty. The initiative also plays a crucial role in advancing poverty reduction, a key objective in Tuần Giáo’s rural development strategy.
