Conference on investment, trade, and tourism promotion held in Điện Biên

ĐBP – The People’s Committee of Điện Biên Province, in collaboration with the Việt Nam Association of Consumer Goods Development (VACOD) and the Hà Nội Business Association, organised an international conference on investment, trade, and tourism promotion under the theme "VACOD - Điện Biên: Strengthening Connectivity - Looking Towards the Future" in Điện Biên Phủ City on Friday.

Attending the conference were Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Committee; Đỗ Thành Trung, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment; Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, Chairman of VACOD; representatives of international organisations; leaders from the provinces of Lào Cai, Lai Châu, Sơn La, and Hòa Bình; as well as representatives from business associations and domestic and foreign enterprises and investors.

Trần Quốc Cường, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Điện Biên Provincial Party Committee; Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Điện Biên People’s Committee; and Phạm Đức Toàn, Member of the Provincial Standing Committee and Standing Vice Chairman of the Điện Biên People’s Committee, were also present at the conference.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Điện Biên People’s Committee Lê Thành Đô emphasised that this event was an opportunity for the province to showcase its potential and strengths, attracting investors to explore and invest in key areas to fully leverage its advantages.

He highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses in promoting their brands, expanding cooperation, and finding new markets for their products. This is also a chance to foster stronger connections between local authorities and the business community, including entrepreneurs and investors.

To date, Điện Biên has approved investment proposals for a total of 215 projects, with a combined registered capital of over VNĐ50 trillion.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Đỗ Thành Trung suggested several solutions to strengthen effective connections between government agencies and the business community.

He urged Điện Biên to focus on addressing challenges, simplifying administrative procedures, and proposing more straightforward legal mechanisms and policies, ensuring a transparent and favourable investment environment that truly supports businesses.

For enterprises, he encouraged proactive research to identify challenges and propose solutions within their specific sectors, allowing the province to guide and support them more effectively.

Senior domestic economists focused their discussions on linking key pillars to promote creative economic development in the northwest region, with Điện Biên as a pilot case.

They also addressed policies for domestic market development, proposing strategies for Điện Biên and the northwest region, including connecting and developing Việt Nam-Laos border trade infrastructure, enhancing tourism in Điện Biên, and applying the ‘economies of scale’ principle in market economies to boost the region’s economy.

They also highlighted the unique values of cooperative economic models globally and in Việt Nam, which could be applied to enhance socio-economic connectivity in Điện Biên and the northwest.
