Commemorating heroes and martyrs at the beginning of 2025 Lunar New Year

ĐBP - In the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the 2025 Lunar New Year (Ất Tỵ), people from both inside and outside Điện Biên Province offered incense and flowers at the Martyrs’ Temple in Điện Biên Phủ Battlefield. At the same time, they visited historical sites in Điện Biên Phủ City to remember and pay tribute to sacrifices of those who gave their youth, blood, and lives for the revolutionary cause.

The Martyrs’ Temple in Điện Biên Phủ Battlefield (Mường Thanh Ward, Điện Biên Phủ City) has become an essential destination for every visitor on their journey of gratitude, sightseeing, and historical experience in Điện Biên.

Ms. Phạm Thị Mai, currently residing in Vĩnh Yên City (Vĩnh Phúc Province), shared that she was born in the heroic land of Điện Biên Phủ, but due to circumstances, she has lived far from it. Every year, she longs to return to visit her homeland.

“On the occasion of the 2025 Ất Tỵ, I am very happy to celebrate the New Year in Điện Biên with my family. Điện Biên has changed a lot, especially with major projects built by the central government and the province, such as the Martyrs’ Temple in Điện Biên Phủ Battlefield. Today, as I offer my respects and light incense at the temple, I feel both emotional and proud, with deep gratitude welling up in my heart,” she added.

According to Ms. Mai, stepping into the Martyrs' Temple in Điện Biên Phủ Battlefield, she was reminded of the inscription at the entrance: “This temple was built from the profound gratitude of today’s and future generations, from the memories of war still etched in our minds, from the wounds on the bodies of war veterans, from the scars imprinted on the motherland, from mud, blood, and flowers.”

“I deeply appreciate the authorities for constructing this temple, allowing people like me, who live far away, to return and express our heartfelt gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the nation. Thanks to them, I can enjoy this beautiful spring today”, shared Ms. Mai.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, in warm sunny weather, historical sites such as the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum and Hill A1, along with many other landmarks in Điện Biên Phủ City, opened their doors to visitors.

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Việt Hà from Lai Châu City (Lai Châu Province) held that after visiting her grandparents and relatives for the New Year, her family visited the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum. Besides admiring the largest panorama painting in Southeast Asia - “The Battle of Điện Biên Phủ,” which vividly depicts the 1954 Điện Biên Phủ Campaign, they also saw many artifacts that helped them visualize the glorious past of their ancestors. The land of Điện Biên has left them with many wonderful impressions.

As local historical sites reopened, Ms. Trần Thị Thảo Nguyên from Thanh Trường Ward (Điện Biên Phủ City) excitedly invited her friends to visit the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum. After listening to the museum’s guides narrate the heroic years of Điện Biên’s soldiers, she and other visitors shared a deep sense of pride in the legendary victory that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe”, as well as a profound appreciation for the sacrifices of past generations during the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign. “As young people, we will continue to uphold the noble values of our nation, inherited from previous generations, standing united, striving for excellence in our study and further contributing to the society,” Ms. Thảo Nguyên expressed.

In order to best serve visitors before, during, and after the 2025 Lunar New Year 2025, staff of the Điện Biên Phủ Historical Victory Museum made prior preparations, including cleaning the sites, ensuring that guides were available at all key locations, and providing assistance to all visitors. Ms. Vũ Thị Tuyết Nga, Director of the museum, stated that from January 15 to January 30, the museum welcomed more than 1,360 visitors, including 710 domestic tourists, 150 international visitors, and over 500 people who visited free of charge.

In recent years, historical and tourist sites have undergone restoration and improvement, while the number and quality of service personnel have also been enhanced. These are crucial factors in improving service quality and attracting tourists from across the country to Điện Biên in the early days of the 2025 Lunar New Year.
