During the first days of this year’s rainy season, soil and rocks slid onto road surface at several positions on the route to the commune center. However, thanks to the proactivity of the local government alongside the joint hands of the people, all landslide points were resolved timely, ensuring uninterrupted traffic.

Xa Dung commune currently manages seven inter-village roads and 24 intra-village routes with a total length of nearly 253km. Currently, over 60km has been concreted and hardened, while the majority remains dirt and gravel roads, making them highly susceptible to damage and blockages during prolonged heavy rains. Several routes with high landslide risks include the Phì Nhừ crossroads - Xa Dung route, the Phì Nhừ - Pó Sinh - Háng Sông Dưới route, and the Thẩm Mỹ - Nà Sản route.

Natural disasters in 2025 left heavy consequences on the local transport system. According to a report by the Xa Dung commune People’s Committee, prolonged heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides seriously affected around 80km of traffic roads. Among these, main routes such as Phì Nhừ - Xa Dung B, the Phì Nhừ - Pó Sinh junction, and Nà Sản A - Tà Mích A and B suffered from large-volume landslides, with many sections completely losing their road surfaces, rendering vehicles unable to circulate. Facing these damages, the local government determined that disaster prevention, response, and traffic assurance during the rainy season must be executed early and from afar.

Right at the beginning of the 2026 rainy season, the commune’s specialized agency assigned cadres to regularly inspect the current state of the roads and review points with high landslide risks to formulate handling plans.

Trần Xuân Hải, Deputy Head of the Xa Dung commune Economic Office, stated: “Right from the start of the rainy season, our unit regularly dispatches cadres to the field to inspect affected roads and areas prone to landslides, thereby advising the commune People’s Committee on plans to repair, upgrade, and construct several local transport routes. For small landslide points that can be cleared locally, the office advises the commune People’s Committee to mobilize police, military forces, and local citizens to participate in clearing slided soil and resolving blockages to guarantee safe travel for the public.”

Promoting the “four on-the-spot” principle, Xa Dung commune has proactively prepared forces, vehicles, and materials to serve response work when heavy rains and floods occur. Local businesses operating excavators and bulldozers in the area are mobilized to coordinate with authorities and residents to immediately handle landslide points, minimizing the risk of traffic isolation.

Following the natural disaster drives of 2025, many local routes have received timely investments for recovery and repair. Routes such as Phì Nhừ - Xa Dung B, Phì Nhừ - Pó Sinh - Háng Sông Dưới - Háng Sông Trên, the path from the commune center to Từ Xa A - Từ Xa B - Trống Sư A, and the Phà Só A - Ca Tâu route have basically been restored, ensuring the resumption of traffic. A number of bridge projects and anti-landslide revetments continue to receive investment to upgrade their resilience against natural disasters.

Alongside overcoming critical points, Xa Dung commune continues to propose investments for several key routes, including Nà Sản - Ca Tâu, Pó Sinh - Háng Sông Dưới - Háng Sông Trên, Nà Sản - Phà Só A, and Phì Nhừ - Từ Xa, aiming to step-by-step finalize the transport infrastructure and satisfy the travel and trade demands of the people.

Vừ A Dua, Vice Chairman of the Xa Dung commune People’s Committee, noted: “The locality has reviewed key routes with high landslide risks to construct response plans, while concurrently proposing to include several routes into the investment portfolio for 2026 and the following years. The target is to step-by-step upgrade the quality of transport infrastructure, satisfying the travel needs of the public and serving local socio-economic development.”

The proactive review of critical points, building response options early, and step-by-step investing to complete transport infrastructure demonstrate the care of Xa Dung commune authorities in ensuring safety for the people, maintaining smooth traffic, and minimizing the impacts of rains and floods, contributing to satisfying the demands for convenient travel and trade in the upcoming rainy season.
