From general orientations to flexible local implementations, the scattered tree planting movement has expanded deeply, becoming a practical solution for developing forest resources, protecting the ecological environment, and improving the quality of life for residents.
By the end of 2025, Điện Biên province aims to plant over 3.8 million trees, including more than 170,000 scattered trees. With the active involvement of the entire political system and public response, the province has planted over 16.2 million trees after five years, reaching 421% of the plan. This total includes 11,926 hectares of concentrated forest, equivalent to over 13.5 million trees, while the remaining 2.7 million are scattered trees.
Specific planting targets are assigned by the provincial People’s Committee to each locality, which proactively reviews land funds and selects suitable locations to avoid fragmented planting. The Department of Agriculture and Environment provides technical guidance and proposes policies, while forest rangers work closely with residents to support planting and care.
In 2025, the province planted approximately 789,000 scattered trees, featuring diverse species such as Bauhinia, Tabebuia chrysotricha, and Acacia along roads and within school and office premises.
In Sáng Nhè commune, Chairman of the People’s Committee Phạm Ngọc Điện reported the completion of 450 scattered trees in 2025, which were assigned to villages for community-led management and care. Building on these results, localities have developed planting plans for early 2026, linking the movement with the traditional Tree Planting Festival.
In Thanh Yên commune, Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyễn Ngọc Tuấn shared that the goal of planting over 500 scattered trees has been detailed for each village and mass organization to improve the living environment and rural landscape.
Similarly, Thanh Nưa commune is working toward planting over 400 trees in 2026 under the motto of every household and every individual participating in greening available garden and public spaces, according to Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyễn Trọng Dương.
A key highlight in Điện Biên is the emphasis on planting quality, where localities select standardized seedlings with clear origins and follow strict seasonal processes. Regular maintenance is ensured by assigning specific responsibilities to organizations and individuals, leading to high survival rates and stable growth. Strategic placement along traffic corridors and public facilities helps create green rural landscapes conducive to ecotourism.
Ultimately, these “green shields” protect the environment and mitigate climate change, serving as a foundation for sustainable living as community awareness and participation continue to grow.
