Promoting the application of organic and VietGAP processes is creating a foundation to form sustainable commodity production zones and elevate local agricultural products.

Moving away from small-scale production heavily reliant on experience, residents are step-by-step shifting their mindset, focusing on complying with farming processes, elevating agricultural product quality, and guaranteeing consumer safety. Across numerous localities in the province, production models for vegetables, fruit trees, coffee, tea, and various other agricultural products following organic and VietGAP directions have been deployed and expanded.

Through adhering to production processes, controlling input material sources, recording farming logs, and elevating producers’ awareness, agricultural product quality is gradually enhanced. This is regarded as the “key” contributing to brand building, meeting increasingly rigorous market requirements, and expanding consumption linkages.

According to statistics, agricultural production following organic and VietGAP directions across the province continues to receive promotional attention. The province currently counts 19.75 hectares of organic production and 33.05 hectares of cultivation holding valid VietGAP certifications. Specialized agencies maintain management, monitoring, and guidance for 16 planting regions focusing on key crops such as macadamia, coffee, and fruit trees, contributing to step-by-step standardizing production processes and elevating agricultural product quality and value.

Since 2017, Phan Nhat Tea Co., Ltd. in Mường Lạn commune shifted toward clean production, utilizing pest control medications and biological preparations of organic origin. To date, out of 17 hectares of tea, 5 hectares have achieved organic certification. From this raw material region, the company developed 9 processed tea products, contributing to elevating value and heading toward sustainable agricultural production.

Phan Trọng Nhất, Director of Phan Nhat Tea Co., Ltd., shared that developing organic products helps position the brand in a higher segment, creating differentiation and elevating competitive edge. Although this direction is not easy, success generates sustainable advantages for the enterprise. Not only accepted in the domestic market, the company’s tea products step-by-step reach out to international markets, with white tea products having been regularly ordered by South Korean customers for many years.

Determining the significance of the livestock sector alongside existing potential, Điện Biên province focuses on directing economic structure conversion. Currently, Tủa Chùa commune is deploying a Lạc Thủy chicken breeding model meeting VietGAHP standards with a scale of 2,500 birds. The project’s execution enjoys close guidance and management from the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Điện Biên provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, and the Agricultural and Livestock Seed Extension Center, alongside executing production and consumption linkages for 100% of the model’s products to elevate economic efficiency and create stable output for breeders.

As one of the households participating in the Lạc Thủy chicken breeding model following VietGAHP processes, Cà Văn Minh from Nà Tòng village received guidance on applying biosafety breeding procedures, guaranteeing hygiene, mitigating environmental pollution risks, and elevating product quality.

Cà Văn Minh shared that he received support including 200 chicks, essential materials, and technical training in breeding following VietGAHP standards, and thanks to specific guidance and proper technical process application, the flock grew and developed well, achieving a 100% survival rate, which serves as a premise for his family to continue maintaining and expanding the model in the coming time.

Alongside achieved results, clean agriculture development and the application of organic and VietGAP processes across the province face numerous difficulties and challenges. Organic production remains fragmented and small-scale, processing and preservation technologies lack synchronous investments, and linkages between production and consumption are not truly solid. These limitations somewhat hinder the process of elevating added value and fully unleashing local agricultural product potential.

Aiming to build a concentrated, green, smart, and sustainable commodity agriculture, the Executive Board of the Điện Biên provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No.11-NQ/TU on restructuring the agricultural sector for the 2026-2030 period with orientations toward 2035. The resolution sets targets by 2030 to build databases and manage 50,000 hectares of planting regions via digital technology, including 300 hectares applying high technology toward smart agricultural production. Concurrently, the province strives to develop 200 new OCOP products achieving 3 stars or higher, alongside securing national brand recognition for 2 agricultural products and achieving 2 export products.

It can be affirmed that developing agriculture along organic and VietGAP standards not only contributes to creating safe, quality products but also lays the “foundation” for transitioning to a green, modern, and sustainable agriculture, thereby step-by-step forming effective production, processing, and consumption linkage chains, elevating agricultural product values, generating rural economic development momentum, and expanding markets for Điện Biên’s agricultural products.
