Visiting Nà Hỳ 1 - a new-style rural village in Nà Hỳ commune, the changes are clearly visible: houses now have new tile roofs, inter-village roads are concreted, and people enjoy increasingly prosperous and sufficient lives.
Tao Văn Phóng, Party Cell Secretary of Nà Hỳ 1, shared: “In the past, Nà Hỳ 1 started from a very low point; the people’s awareness was limited, and reliance on state support was still widespread. Infrastructure was lacking, transportation and irrigation systems were not synchronized, and cultural facilities were insufficient.”
Understanding the challenges of building a New-style rural village, the Party Cell of Nà Hỳ 1 held meetings to assess advantages and set appropriate directions to address the limitations. In addition to focusing on communication, and based on the principle of doing easier tasks first, the village mobilized the power of ethnic solidarity and promoted internal strength. As a result, residents actively contributed labor, money, and land for the construction of public works to serve community life and kept the village clean and beautiful. A notable achievement is the shift in mindset and agricultural practices: villagers developed new livelihood models, many escaped poverty, and some became well-off. Currently, Nà Hỳ 1 no longer has any poor households.

“Building a new-style rural village has significantly impacted and positively transformed our lives. Both materially and spiritually, our living standards have improved. We now have electricity, a complete healthcare system, and many concrete roads that make travel, production, and daily life much easier,” said Lèng Thị Duyên, a resident of Nà Hỳ 1.
Following the motto “Learn good practices, apply them creatively and appropriately to local conditions,” Nà Ín village in Mường Chà commune achieved model new-style rural village status in 2021. To improve people’s lives, the Party Cell, village leadership, and local organizations led the way, working alongside villagers to reclaim land, renovate gardens, and shift crop and livestock structures. They built model gardens tied to household economic development and promoted service-based occupations.
Thùng Văn Thánh, Head of Nà Ín village, said: “Many models have proven economically effective, such as growing loofah, sa nhân, beekeeping, and livestock farming through farms and ranches. These have helped increase incomes and transform lives. Many households have moved from poverty to affluence, taking control of their futures. The current average per capita income in the village is estimated at VND 36.5 million per year; there are no more poor households.”
Tao Văn Pín, a resident of Nà Ín, shared: “Contributing to the new-style rural development, my family donated nearly 1,000 m2 of land for the construction of the village cultural house. I also actively changed crop structures, renovated production land, developed the household economy, reminded family members to build a cultural household, and cleaned village roads and planted trees.”
Currently, every household in Nà Ín has built their own gardens, solid fences, and gates. There are no more households raising livestock under their stilt houses. People build hygienic toilets and handle waste properly. The percentage of homes meeting housing standards has reached 100%; over 70% of gateways are well-designed in harmony with the village landscape; and 81.73% of households keep livestock in barns built at least 15 meters from their homes, avoiding environmental impact.

After achieving new-style rural village status, Nà Sự village in Mường Chà commune was selected to build a model New-style rural village. Acknowledging both the honor and responsibility, the Party Committee and Cell proactively developed resolutions and plans, assigning specific tasks to Party members. Alongside infrastructure and public works development, the village successfully established the Nà Sự community tourism model, making it an attractive destination for visitors. This contributed to Nà Sự’s achievement of model new-style rural village status in 2023.
Thùng Văn Quân, Head of Nà Sự village, said: “To turn Nà Sự into a destination for sightseeing and experience, we built both large and small water wheels along the stream, landscaped the area, and installed 1,500 lights along village roads and embankments. The village also built standardized homestays, organized a cultural performance team, and offered traditional dishes for tourists. Every year, Nà Sự welcomes nearly 6,000 visitors, opening up opportunities to develop tourism-based income and improve local livelihoods.”
To successfully build New-style rural and model new-style rural villages, besides state resources, each locality must leverage the internal strength of its people. Communication and mobilization should be enhanced to encourage residents to participate in building essential infrastructure such as roads, cultural houses, and satellite schools, under the motto: “The State and the people work together.” Each village that reaches the new-style rural or model new-style rural status not only transforms the landscape of mountainous and border areas and improves quality of life, but also lays a strong foundation for further breakthroughs and development.
