Through organic-oriented cultivation processes focusing on quality and aesthetics, products from Mường Khoe Xanh Agricultural Service Cooperative have entered the Hà Nội market, charting a new path for fruit tree development linked to commercial production and market expansion.
Previously, agricultural production in Mường Ảng commune relied mainly on traditional crops. Implementing the policy on crop restructuring toward higher economic returns, fruit trees were introduced into production step by step, offering additional choices for local farmers and contributing to diversifying local agricultural produce.
Mường Khoe Xanh Agricultural Service Cooperative is one of the pioneering units in crop restructuring. Currently, the cooperative manages about 30 hectares of fruit trees, including pomelo, Thai jackfruit, and predominantly Golden Star Apple. From selecting crop varieties suited to soil and climate conditions to cultivation, harvesting, and off-take, the cooperative has gradually formed a closed production process tied to market demands.
To ensure high-quality Golden Star Apples, the cooperative pays special attention to organic farming practices, utilizing well-decomposed cow manure and composted coffee husks for fertilization, while combining biological pest control with branch pruning and fruit thinning. In particular, fruits are bagged early to prevent insect damage, resulting in an appealing and uniform appearance. Thanks to a systematic approach adhering to technical protocols, the cooperative produces star apples of uniform size and high quality, which are graded by weight and quality before reaching the market.
Golden Star Apples delivered to the market are categorized into multiple grades: Special Grade weighing from 650 grams per fruit and above; VIP Grade from 550 to 650 grams; Grade 1 from 400 to 550 grams; and Grade 2 from 300 to 400 grams. Premium standard fruits fetch approximately VND 250,000 per kilogram, while Grade 1 sells for around VND 120,000 per kilogram. Product classification based on standards and weight enables the cooperative to price products proactively and satisfy diverse customer segments.
Nguyễn Huy Đức, Director of Mường Khoe Xanh Agricultural Service Cooperative, stated that to deliver Golden Star Apples to major markets such as Hà Nội, the unit implemented completely organic-oriented planting and care protocols. Meticulous care is maintained from flowering and fruit set to fertilization and harvesting, ensuring only fruits meeting strict criteria for appearance, quality, and sweetness reach consumers. In the coming time, the cooperative will continue developing and expanding Golden Star Apple acreage locally.
Currently, over 90% of the cooperative’s Golden Star Apple harvest is distributed to the Hà Nội market, supplying an average of roughly 15 tons per month. The harvest window extends from mid-June to February of the following year, ensuring relatively stable market supplies.
To develop fruit trees sustainably, technical guidance and orientations from specialized bodies are emphasized locally. Lù Văn Cường, Deputy Head of the Economic Division of Mường Ảng commune, noted that the division has intensified communication and guidance for local farmers and cooperatives to apply technical standards in crop care and pest control organically and safely, elevating produce quality. Currently, the commune has 18 OCOP products, with several established in major markets such as Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City, including coffee, green-skinned pomelo, and Golden Star Apples.
The locality currently encourages production facilities to invest in packaging, labeling, and product quality improvements while expanding sales channels. Linkages among growers, cooperatives, and enterprises are identified as vital solutions to secure stable off-take, enhance crop value, and promote commercialized production.
