The family of Lê Đình Tuấn in Residential Group 23, Điện Biên Phủ ward, has three generations living together. Their electricity demand is substantial, with multiple appliances frequently operating simultaneously, resulting in quite high monthly power consumption. During peak hot season months, his family’s electricity bill increases by an additional VND 1 - 1.5 million.
Lê Đình Tuấn shared: “Previously, we just used it whenever it was convenient, and I often forgot to turn off the lights when leaving a room. It was only when the electricity bill skyrocketed that our family was startled. Afterwards, we reminded each other to use it more economically, turn off devices when unnecessary, and limit turning on multiple electrical appliances at the same time. Gradually it became a habit, and now our electricity bill has decreased significantly.”
Understanding the benefits and meaning of saving electricity, many families in Điện Biên Phủ ward have proactively turned off electrical devices when not in use, installed smart electrical systems controlled via smartphones to prevent forgetting to turn off appliances, prioritized using LED lights, adjusted machinery usage times reasonably, and opened curtains to welcome natural light.
Nguyễn Thị Thương from Residential Group 4, Điện Biên Phủ ward, stated: “Our family prioritizes using energy-labeled appliances. Another important thing is educating our children to turn off electric lights or appliances when they are not in use.”
Not only in urban areas, the awareness of using electricity economically is gradually spreading to communes and villages. Through public meetings and community activities, contents on safe and economical power usage are integrated and disseminated regularly. Along with that, commune authorities coordinate with the power sector to guide residents on how to use electrical appliances efficiently and in line with practical conditions.
Vice Chairman of the Búng Lao commune People’s Committee Kiều Xuân Hoàng stated: “We determine that disseminating and raising public awareness about safe and economical electricity usage is a regular task. The commune has directed mass organizations to integrate this content into village meetings and community activities, step-by-step forming the habit of using electricity economically in every household.”
Thanks to dissemination, the perception of residents in Búng Lao commune regarding electricity usage has seen many positive changes. Sùng A Dè from Huổi Háo village shared: “Our village has 66 households. Thanks to the ‘Bừng sáng Điện Biên’ (Lightining up Điện Biên) program, in July 2025, our people used the national grid for the first time. Having electricity makes life much more convenient, but we are also disseminated and guided to use electricity economically, safely, and avoid waste.”
To form a habit of saving electricity in the community, Điện Biên Power Company regularly disseminates and mobilizes the public to use electricity effectively. From 2025 to present, the unit has deployed hundreds of dissemination programs in villages, hamlets, and residential groups, coordinated to organize numerous extracurricular activities at educational institutions, and launched the movement “Saving electricity - becoming a habit” among agencies, units, and households.
Along with dissemination work, the Power Company applies modern technology to monitor loads, encourages the installation of rooftop solar power, and signs electricity-saving commitments with 100% of customers in the administrative, public lighting, industrial production, and business service sectors. In addition, inspections of electricity usage at enterprises, production, and business establishments are conducted regularly every year and during peak periods.
Director of Điện Biên Power Company Trần Đức Dũng stated that despite many positive changes, to make the people truly understand the meaning and practical value of saving electricity, the unit defines dissemination work as a long-term task that needs to be deployed flexibly and tailored to each target group. Therefore, in the coming time, the company will continue to implement even more solutions, such as communication at villages, hamlets, and schools to shape electricity-saving awareness for students and residents, and stepping up multi-platform dissemination via social networks... to spread the message “Saving electricity - becoming a habit.”
