Accompanying farmers in developing production

ĐBP - Over the past years, farmers’ organizations at all levels across Điện Biên province have deployed many practical activities to support members in developing production, upgrading incomes, and step-by-step rising to wealth right in their own homeland.

From facilitating access to preferential capital sources and organizing training classes for transferring science and technology to building effective economic models, the association organization is increasingly affirming its role as a solid anchor for farmers in their economic development journey.

The family of Lường Văn Thành, residing in Phăng 2 village, Mường Phăng commune, is one of the typical outstanding farmer households. In 2020, through production support capital from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies entrusted via the commune Farmers’ Association, Lường Văn Thành borrowed VND 100 million to invest in developing the family economy. Along with accumulated capital, he boldly expanded the production model toward combining agriculture with experiential tourism. On an area of about 3,000m² of family land, Lường Văn Thành invested in constructing a homestay accommodation area, planting strawberries and black summer grapes. Instead of producing through traditional methods, he selected a new direction of developing agricultural tourism, where visitors can enjoy both a holiday and the opportunity to visit and experience harvesting agricultural products right in the garden.

Following many years of investment and development, the model of Lường Văn Thành’s family has become a destination drawing a large number of tourists from both inside and outside the province. The grape trellises and strawberry beds laden with fruit bring a significant income from agricultural products, while concurrently generating extra revenue from accommodation, dining, and experiential services. From a purely agricultural household, Lường Văn Thành’s family has built a stable economic development direction, step-by-step upgrading their quality of life.

The story of Lường Văn Thành serves as a vivid testament to the efficiency of farmer support programs across the province. Determining that accompanying members to develop production is a core task, Farmers’ Association levels in the province always proactively deploy many solutions tailored to the practical conditions of each locality. Beside receiving entrustments for members to borrow capital for production development, the work of training and transferring science and technology also receives special attention from the association levels.

Recently, the Mường Thanh ward Farmers’ Association coordinated with the Political Center to organize a professional association work training class and provide technical guidance on care and disease prevention for livestock and poultry to 104 cadres and members. Through the training class, farmer members were equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply to production realities. From altering cultivation habits to applying technical advances in animal husbandry and crop cultivation, farmers are becoming increasingly active in building appropriate economic models that bring about sustainable efficiency.

Currently, the provincial Farmers’ Association records 90,282 members active across 1,446 grassroots-level chapters, standing as the core force in emulation movements for labor and production, agricultural economic development, and building new-style rural areas. Since the beginning of the year, the association has organized training to upgrade the level and skills of 282 excellent production and business farmers, who act as nuclei to spread the production development movement across rural areas. Concurrently, the association is deploying loans from the Farmer Support Fund for 74 production development projects. This capital source has created conditions for many members to boldly invest in expanding production scales, shifting crop and livestock structures, and building economic models suited to the actual conditions of each locality.

Notably, entrustment activities with the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies continue to promote their efficiency. As of May 19, 2026, the total outstanding debt managed by the provincial Farmers’ Association organization reached over VND 1,565 billion, with 20,553 borrowing households through 597 savings and credit groups. These figures demonstrate the increasingly important role of the association organization in bringing preferential capital sources to the public, particularly households that still face many difficulties regarding production development conditions.

From capital and production knowledge to technical support, provincial Farmers’ Association levels are adding motivation for farmers to confidently develop the economy and construct an increasingly prosperous life. Many members have risen to become typical examples of excellent production and business, creating jobs and upgrading family incomes. Currently, the entire province records over 3,500 members achieving the title of excellent production and business farmers at all levels. They serve as typical nuclei in labor and production, spreading the spirit of overcoming difficulties and being daring in thought and action, thereby contributing to boosting agricultural and rural economic development, and joining hands to build a richer, more beautiful, and more civilized Điện Biên homeland.
