Trần Quang Huy, Deputy Director of Road Joint Stock Company 226, reported that many points along National Highway 6 have experienced landslides and flooding, causing difficulties for vehicles to travel.
Notably, at Km400, large boulders have fallen from the mountainside, completely blocking the road and causing a total traffic standstill.
On the Provincial Road 140, which connects Tuần Giáo and Tủa Chùa districts, a major landslide occurred at Km1+520. Debris from the slopes has spilled onto the road, causing localised traffic disruptions.
Similarly, National Highway 4H, connecting Mường Chà, Nậm Pồ, and Mường Nhé districts, has seen dozens of landslides affecting the areas around the communes of Pa Tần and Ma Thì Hồ, making travel very challenging.
National Highway 12 at Km120 in Huổi Lèng Commune has also suffered significant landslides, completely blocking the road.
The provincial Department of Transport has directed road management units to deploy machinery and personnel to clear landslides and ensure traffic flow.
The department has also organised traffic diversion and guided vehicles and residents to safely navigate around affected areas.
Điện Biên is forecast to continue to experience heavy rain until the end of July 31, with rainfall expected to range from 20 to 70mm, and exceed 100 mm in some areas with a level 1 natural disaster risk.
