Điện Biên implements PM’s emergency directive for super typhoon Yagi

ĐBP - Leaders of Điện Biên Province convened a meeting on Friday morning to respond to Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính's emergency directive concerning Super Typhoon Yagi.

The meeting, chaired by Trần Quốc Cường, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, was also attended by Mùa A Sơn, Standing Deputy Secretary, and Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Secretary Trần Quốc Cường stressed that no department or locality should underestimate the severity of the typhoon. He urged local authorities to thoroughly assess high-risk areas and ensure residents in unsafe zones are evacuated to safer locations in advance, emphasising that evacuations must be proactive, not reactive.

He also highlighted the need to suspend work and school activities if heavy rain is forecasted, either locally or upstream, during the storm's impact. For flood-prone areas, he directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to advise farmers to harvest their rice crops early, calling for additional support to prevent total crop loss if necessary.

Local authorities were instructed to deploy forces and equipment in key vulnerable areas to ensure readiness for potential emergencies. Secretary Cường further ordered all departments, agencies, and districts to suspend meetings on Sunday and Monday to prioritise disaster preparedness inspections at the grassroots level.

Recognising the critical importance of communication during emergencies, Secretary Cường instructed the Department of Information and Communications to ensure uninterrupted communication. He also called on border guards, military, and police forces to maintain dedicated communication teams on standby for emergency response. Furthermore, he urged provincial media outlets to intensify their coverage on storm preparedness, providing accurate, science-based information tailored to local conditions to raise public awareness and encourage proactive measures.
