Điện Biên Party Committee reviews administrative reorganisation plan for 2023-2025

ĐBP - The Điện Biên Provincial Party Committee on Tuesday morning convened its 19th session of the 14th tenure to discuss the plan for reorganising district and commune-level administrative units for the 2023 – 2025 period.

This includes proposals to adjust the administrative boundaries of Mường Lay Town and Mường Chà District, as well as Điện Biên Phủ City and Điện Biên District.

The meeting was chaired by member of the Party Central Committee and provincial Party Secretary Trần Quốc Cường, Mùa A Sơn, Standing Deputy Secretary and Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

During the meeting, delegates largely supported the plan to adjust the administrative boundaries of Mường Lay Town and Mường Chà District, Điện Biên Phủ City and Điện Biên District.

They highlighted the need to retain Mường Lay Town to ensure ten district-level units, set criteria for its urban development post-merger, and reorganise the administrative apparatus.

Discussions also covered post-merger issues like cultural and religious diversity, forest protection, historical sites, agricultural production, and economic development.

In his concluding remarks, provincial Party Secretary Trần Quốc Cường noted that the discussions had thoroughly reviewed the social, natural, transportation, tourism, and agricultural aspects of the reorganisation plan.

He emphasised the need for precision in the plan for district and commune-level administrative units for the 2023 - 2025 period, including detailed reports on population, area, and the names of administrative units post-reorganisation.

He also requested additional reports on the ethnic and religious factors of these localities.

Highlighting changes in the ethnic composition of localities post-merger, the provincial Party Secretary also suggested that alongside the reorganisation plan, there should be a plan for organising the administrative apparatus, especially in preparation for the new term.
