Stemming from the economic efficiency of this plant, Na Sang is progressively expanding its raw material area, striving toward the target of reaching 1,200 to 1,500ha by 2030, laying the foundation to form a concentrated commodity pineapple production zone, linking production with markets, and enhancing the value of local agricultural products.
Pineapple was selected by Na Sang commune based on exploiting land advantages and favorable natural conditions and climate, which are suitable for pineapple growth and fit for elevating agricultural production value. Consequently, many areas previously devoted to low-efficiency maize and cassava cultivation have gradually been converted by local residents to pineapple planting. To bring into play advantages in pineapple cultivation, the Party Committee of Na Sang commune concretized pineapple development orientations in Resolution No.09 on agricultural and forestry development for the 2026 - 2030 period, identifying the development of a concentrated raw material area as one of the important pathways to exploit land potential effectively, enhancing production value and income for local people.
To date, the entire commune has more than 380ha of pineapple, concentrated heavily in Na Sang, Co Đứa, Sa Lông 1, Sa Lông 2, and Hin 1 villages. The pineapple area increasing across each year demonstrates that this crop holds an increasingly distinct position in the local agricultural production structure.
Na Sang pineapple is sweet and juicy, being favored by the market. Transport vehicles arriving directly at production zones for procurement help farmers substantially reduce transport costs and harvesting labor. At the start of the harvest season, the average selling price ranges from VND 12,000 to VND 15,000 per kg, and during the peak season from VND 8,000 to VND 12,000 per kg. After deducting expenses, each hectare of pineapple can yield a profit of more than VND 200 million. This efficiency creates momentum for residents to boldly invest, progressively altering production mindsets.
To exploit this crop effectively and sustainably, residents of Na Sang commune have altered production thinking, paying greater attention to techniques, crop scheduling, and product quality. People proactively stagger crop cycles, creating a continuous product supply by producing staggered crops, overlapping plantings, and alternating seeding and harvesting schedules. This practice helps reduce harvest, transport, and consumption pressure during the peak season, while facilitating price stability.
The Na Sang Pineapple Cooperative plays a role as one of the major production and consumption linkage hubs in the area. Established in 2017, the cooperative has now developed approximately 320ha with nearly 70 members. A large-scale raw material zone allows the cooperative to aggregate products while establishing linkages between residents and the market.
According to Lê Thanh Tâm, Director of the Na Sang Pineapple Cooperative, to maintain supply, particularly during peak harvest times, the cooperative links with pineapple-farming households to secure input raw materials, while connecting with off-take units and agricultural processing enterprises outside the province. The cooperative invested in trucks to serve agricultural transport. Taking the initiative in transport vehicles together with organizing procurement right at the production zone facilitates smoother transport, reduces intermediary stages, and enables products to reach the market faster.
Companionship from the government has provided additional resources for Na Sang residents to develop pineapple crops. From national target program capital, more than VND 9 billion has been disbursed to support seedlings, materials, and production conditions for hundreds of households. The Queen Pineapple Production and Consumption Linkage Project alone supported poor and near-poor households in developing 11ha of pineapple under a value chain model. Supportive resources have contributed to helping people secure conditions to convert low-efficiency maize and cassava areas to pineapple cultivation.
Consolidated consumption linkages have inspired added confidence among the people. However, when setting the target to expand the pineapple zone to 1,200 to 1,500ha by 2030, Na Sang also faces the requirement to elevate the entire production chain. An area multiplying several times over current levels means a sharp increase in output, demanding that consumer markets, purchasing capacity, transport, and processing be expanded accordingly.
This issue has been recognized by local authorities during the implementation of the policy to develop raw material zones. Recently, the commune People’s Committee held a working session with the Na Sang Pineapple Cooperative to evaluate production, listen to difficulties and obstacles, and reach consensus on solutions to develop raw material zones in the locality.
Difficulties in pineapple production, procurement, and consumption have been recognized. Beyond output, pricing, and payment timeframes, expanding raw material zones also requires substantial investment capital, while access to credit among a segment of residents remains limited. Several households face difficulties regarding land procedures and dossiers to establish a basis for accessing bank loans. These issues show that for raw material areas to develop steadily, planting area master planning, seasonal scheduling, consolidation of linkage hubs, capacity enhancement for cooperatives, and increased participation by enterprises in procurement and processing are essential.
According to Nguyễn Trường Giang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Na Sang commune, the locality determines to continue accompanying cooperatives and residents during production organization, prioritizing support in early stages where people and cooperatives face difficulties. The commune also mobilizes and guides capable household groups to establish about 2 additional pineapple cooperatives in the locality, thereby creating more production linkage hubs, expanding raw material areas, and improving product purchasing and consumption capacity.
Along with developing linkage hubs, Na Sang orients raw material area expansion in favorable sectors, particularly along national highway corridors. The locality has completed cultivation area planning, while affirming that controlling acreage must be linked with market consumption capacity.
In parallel with expanding acreage, improving quality and branding are also prioritized. Na Sang pineapple fruit has had its geographical map corresponding to the collective trademark zone approved by the province, creating the basis to enhance value, heighten product identification, and steadily construct a sustainable commodity sector, combined with intensifying scientific and technical applications, guiding people to elevate product quality, organizing production rationally, and step-by-step standardizing farming processes.
To realize the target of expanding the cultivation area, the locality must continue removing bottlenecks concerning capital, land, and techniques; strengthen cooperatives; expand linkages with enterprises and markets; and maintain effective control over growing area scales to guarantee a balance between production and consumption.
The green color of pineapple fields spreading across Na Sang hillsides is also the green of a fresh production pathway. If linkages extending from raw material areas, techniques, capital, cooperatives, and enterprises through to the market continue to be consolidated, the target of expanding acreage will create the foundation to form a large concentrated commodity pineapple zone, elevating product value, creating employment, and increasing incomes for local residents.
