Mường Thanh Rice Fields in Harvest Season

ĐBP – The Mường Thanh rice fields in the northern province of Điện Biên – the largest in Việt Nam’s northwest region – are entering the harvest season, promising a bumper crop for local farmers.

The Mường Thanh rice field covers an area of over 140 square kilometres and stretches over 20 kilometres across several communes and wards in Điện Biên District and Điện Biên Phủ City.

During the winter-spring crop of 2023 – 2024, the province has planted over 9,820 hectares of rice, with the Mường Thanh rice fields alone accounting for more than 4,000 hectares.

Amidst the scorching sun, farmers have eagerly harvested the rice. The urgent and bustling atmosphere of the harvest season fills the fields with the sound of combined harvesters and the laughter of farmers throughout the fields.

Some households with extensive fields have hired full-time harvesters to ensure timely harvesting.

With intensive cultivation, increased planting, and the use of new varieties, the productivity, quality, and output of rice in the Mường Thanh fields are continuously increasing. This year's winter-spring crop has brought great excitement to farmers as the average rice yield reaches 6-8 tonnes per hectare, depending on the rice variety.
