A warm Tết for the poor

ĐBP - Under the message “The entire nation joins hands for the poor, leaving no one behind,” Party committees, local authorities, and political-social organizations across Điện Biên Province have been actively organizing meaningful activities to support policy beneficiaries and impoverished households ahead the 2025 Lunar New Year, also known as Tết holiday. These noble deeds from the whole society are spreading joy and ensuring everyone a happy Tết holiday.

Currently, Mường Chà District has 3,725 poor households and 1,617 near-poor ones. To implement the policy of caring for and providing Tết gifts to the poor, the local Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs Department has coordinated with localities to review and compile a list of eligible recipients in accordance with the policy. Efforts have also been made to support disadvantaged families so they can enjoy a cozy Tết holiday.

Delegates hand over gifts to poor people in Mường Chà District.

Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Thái, Head of the Mường Chà District’s Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs Department, shared: “Following instructions from the higher level, we have associated with localities to assess and complete a list of poor households eligible for rice support during the coming Tết holiday. In the district, 110 poor households with 2,480 individuals in 12 communes and township will receive over 37 tons of rice (15kg per person). To ensure no one is left behind, we have sent staff to the grassroots level to verify and deliver support to correct recipients. Households in more difficult circumstances are prioritized. Special priority is given to elderly people living alone, orphans, households suffering crop losses, and large families.”

In addition, the Mường Chà District’s Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs Department has advised the local People’s Committee to send delegations to visit, extend Tết greetings, and present gifts to policy beneficiaries as a way of honoring those who contributed to the revolutionary cause. Reportedly, more than 2,000 Tết gift packages have been distributed to the poor in Mường Chà District by various organizations, sectors, and individuals.

With the desire for every family to celebrate a warm Tết holiday, Điện Biên Đông District has paid due attention to supporting poor families and policy beneficiaries, with the aim at motivating them to overcome difficulties and strive for a better life.

Mr. Nguyễn Văn Tiến, Head of the Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs Department of Điện Biên Đông District, shared that, based on its assigned functions and duties, the department has proposed the local People’s Committee to implement policies to support poor families, policy beneficiaries, and workers during the Tết holiday. For poor households, policy beneficiaries, and impoverished children, the district will distribute more than 50 tons of rice to 763 households and 3,385 individuals in need during the country’s traditional holiday.

From donations by sponsors, Điện Biên Đông District coordinated the distribution of 1,799 gift packages to 1,799 disadvantaged households, with a total budget of nearly VNĐ 880 million. Among them, the Thiện Tâm Charity Fund of Vingroup sponsored 500 gift packages (worth VNĐ 250,000 each), distributed by the Điện Biên Province’s Delegation of the National Assembly deputies, to support poor people in Xa Dung and Na Son Communes. Additionally, from the “For the poor” Fund, Điện Biên Đông District provided gifts to 60 poor households and those facing difficult circumstances.

During the “Green Bánh Chưng” Festival held in Tìa Dình Commune, the Social Policy Bank’s branch in Điện Biên Đông District gave 10 gift packages to the poor, and Agribank’s branch in the district provided 15 packages. The People’s Committee of Điện Biên Đông District also presented 60 gift packages (worth VNĐ 600,000 each) to 20 poor households in Tìa Dình Commune, while the Military Command of Điện Biên Đông District granted 10 gift packages (worth VNĐ 600,000 each) to 10 disadvantaged individuals.

Over the past years, caring for the poor during every Tết holiday in Điện Biên Province has consistently received strong leadership and direction from Party committees at all levels, as well as close coordination from local authorities, agencies, organizations, businesses, individuals, and sponsors both inside and outside the province. Funds from socialization sources, combined with the State budget, have provided thousands of Tết gift packages, sharing warmth and encouragement with poor households, policy beneficiaries, and those in difficult circumstances across the province.

Mr. Mùa A Vảng, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Điện Biên Province, emphasized: To prepare for the Tết 2025 holiday, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Điện Biên Province has built a detailed plan to mobilize resources to support the poor and those in difficult conditions. This plan aims to mobilize funds from socialization sources to care for poor families, individuals in hardship, and those affected by natural disasters, providing them with additional support to celebrate the Tết holiday. It also seeks to popularize and encourage noble deeds and Tết support activities from organizations, businesses, and benefactors within and beyond the province.

As the Tết 2025 holiday approaches, officials, Party members, and residents in Điện Biên Province are joining hands with Party committees, local authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s sub-chapters, and political-social organizations at all levels in the province to share difficulties with poor households. Every Tết holiday, sentiments and responsibility of Party committees and local authorities, in association with compassion and generosity of organizations and individuals, have acted as a bridge fostering community connection. This spirit continues to beautify humanity and long-standing tradition of mutual support in our country, ensuring that everyone celebrates a wonderful and prosperous Tết celebration.
