Special “tourism ambassadors”

ĐBP - From September 19-21, Điện Biên hosted the 2025 Northwest Quintessence Festival - Điện Biên, an event featuring thousands of artisans, performers, students, and young people, leaving a profound impression on visitors. With pride and love for their homeland, every participant became a “special tourism ambassador,” helping to spread the cultural values of the Northwest and promote the image of a dynamic, friendly, and culturally rich Điện Biên to domestic and international friends.

At the Traditional Handicraft Demonstration and Experience Booth under the program Introducing Unique Tourism Destinations, Giàng Thị Mẩy from Tà Là Cáo village, Sính Phình commune, both wove soft flax threads into fabric and warmly welcomed visitors. Many tourists were fascinated by the meticulous process of creating brocade, admiring the skillful hands and cultural spirit embedded in each piece of cloth by Mông women in Điện Biên.

Visitors enjoy learning about brocade products.

To complete a brocade product, Mẩy must go through multiple stages: planting flax, spinning yarn, beeswax printing, indigo dyeing, sewing, and embroidery. Finished items are decorated with geometric patterns, squares, rectangles, diamonds, in colors such as white, red, yellow, green, and purple. Beyond brocade, she also introduced bracelets, earrings, and brocade handbags, each showcasing the creativity of Mông women. “I’m so happy to join the Festival and introduce our culture. Many visitors, even foreigners, were excited and praised our products. Even though I worked from morning until late, I only felt joy because more people now know about our community,” she said.

Tourists experience bamboo pole dancing at the Street Parade.

At the Street Parade, over 1,000 artisans and community performers from border communes traveled to the center of Điện Biên Phủ ward. Each outfit, dance, and song carried its own cultural imprint, creating a vibrant and colorful atmosphere. They were not only performers but also “special tourism ambassadors,” bringing Điện Biên closer to visitors from all over. “Wearing my traditional costume and performing familiar dances made me proud. Many tourists stopped to take pictures and videos. Through our dances and costumes, people can learn about Hà Nhì culture. I hope we will have more opportunities like this,” shared Pờ Sơn Mé from Sín Thầu commune.

More than 400 youth union members from local high schools and colleges also joined the Festival. Despite the heat, they rehearsed diligently to deliver their best performances. In vibrant traditional attire, groups of students performed fan dances, xòe dances, and bamboo pole dances, creating an energetic atmosphere that drew visitors to join in. Each young participant became a “special tourism ambassador,” promoting cultural identity with creativity, dynamism, and youthful enthusiasm. “I was so proud to wear my traditional costume and perform our dances. It makes me feel more responsible for preserving our culture. Even though my contribution was small, I am happy to have introduced Điện Biên’s image to visitors,” said Khoàng Thị Vi, a student of Điện Biên Ethnic Boarding High School.

The 2025 Northwest Quintessence Festival - Điện Biên truly showcased the cultural brilliance of ethnic groups, affirming the role of artisans, performers, and young people as “special tourism ambassadors” who spread local identity to friends and visitors from near and far.
