ĐBP - Surpassing dozens of international teams from Laos and China, the Lao brocade weaving artisans from Núa Ngam commune, Điện Biên province, excellently won Second Prize at the 2025 “Pu’er - Creativity and Success” Ethnic Traditional Brocade Weaving Skills Competition.

The competition was part of a series of cultural exchange and entrepreneurship events involving three countries, Vietnam, Laos, and China, held in Zhengdong town, Jiangcheng county, Pu’er city, Yunnan province (China).

Participating in the competition were 32 teams from various localities across the three countries: Vietnam, Laos, and China. The requirement for each entry was that it must be an original product, with no limitations on specifications or form. Contestants from each team were allowed to complete part of their brocade product beforehand, with the remaining part (weaving or embroidery) performed live at the competition within a 30-minute timeframe (to demonstrate their skills).

The judges evaluate the entries.

Additionally, the competition required contestants to combine unique local ethnic elements with their own situation to design the colors, prepare the weaving threads and tools themselves, and bring them to the competition venue.

The most distinctive feature is the exquisite brocade patterns; each motif carries a story and a unique meaning connected to life and beliefs, such as: wavy lines symbolizing rivers and streams - the life source of the village; flint stones representing the warm hearth and solidarity; triangles signifying the mountains and forests where villages are established; lozenge shapes, ferns, ban flowers, fish, elephants, dragons... reflecting the connection with nature and the aspiration for abundance and happiness.
