The initiative also seeks to harness the cultural significance of the festival to boost tourism and drive development tied to the U Va area.

The festival was brought back to life with both a ceremonial and a festive component.

The solemn ceremony, rich in Thái cultural identity, served as a way for participants to express their deep gratitude to their ancestors, thanking them for their guidance and blessings in ensuring their families’ health and prosperity.

Prayers for favourable weather and fruitful harvests in the upcoming seasons were also offered.

The festival saw 11 teams compete in a range of traditional Thái folk games, including raft racing, tug-of-war, cloth ball tossing, young rice pounding and a culinary competition.

A cultural exchange between the district’s public art troupe and four local communes added further vibrancy to the event.

The successful revival of the new rice celebration is a significant step in preserving the distinctive cultural heritage of the Thái ethnic group.

By linking the festival to the U Va location, local authorities aim not only to honour tradition but also to attract tourists and encourage local tourism development.
