The Mường Pồn Border Post manages 17 villages with nearly 2,200 households belonging to 6 coexisting ethnic groups. Local living conditions remain challenging, and production relies predominantly on agriculture, while farming practices in several localities remain backward with modest productivity. Confronting this reality, the Mường Pồn Border Post identified assisting the people in economic development and livelihood stabilization as a core political mission. This effort consolidates military-civilian ties, mobilizes the people’s strength, and builds a robust all-people border defense posture.

To turn guidelines into practice, the unit regularly dispatches cadres and soldiers to the grassroots to directly inspect the cultivation and husbandry conditions of individual households. Simultaneously, they provide residents with guidance on agricultural and farming techniques to innovate production methods and enhance labor productivity.

Lò Văn Sơn from Cò Chạy village, Mường Pồn commune, shared: “Thanks to the guidance and production support from border guard officers and soldiers, my family gained more experience and learned to apply new methods to develop our economy. Cadres and soldiers regularly visit the village, sharing methods to raise water buffaloes, cows, and fruit trees, which is why my family now enjoys an economic model that delivers stable income...”

Through numerous concrete deeds, cadres and soldiers of the Thanh Luông Border Post have upheld the spirit of staying close to the people and firmly holding the terrain. The unit coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to conduct legal education, support economic development, and eradicate hunger and reduce poverty. This progressively heightened the awareness and responsibility of the people in maintaining public order and defending territorial sovereignty.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Đoàn Thanh Tuấn, Political Officer of the Thanh Luông Border Post, thanks to troops regularly staying close to the locality and actively campaigning, grassroots public order self-management teams in the unit’s assigned areas maintain high efficacy. As a result, 15 collectives, more than 40 households, and over 130 individuals voluntarily registered to join self-managed teams protecting national border lines and markers. Residents proactively detect and supply information regarding abnormal signs, collaborating with functional forces to patrol, control the area, and defend the border.

The provincial Border Guard has maintained practical programs and models caring for the material and spiritual well-being of the people, such as “Soldier’s Rice Jar,” “Green-Shoulder-Board Doctors,” “Green-Shoulder-Board Teachers,” “Helping Children Go to School,” and “Border Guard Spring Warming Villagers’ Hearts.” Each model employs distinct approaches with unique significance, yet all share a common orientation toward the grassroots and the people, helping border residents stabilize their lives.

Particularly during critical times, border guards are promptly present alongside local authorities and people to mitigate natural disasters and overcome hardship. In early 2026, the border area saw 8 forest fires, 2 residential fires, and numerous rounds of whirlwinds and hail, damaging property and disrupting livelihoods. Border guard units mobilized over 170 turns of cadres and soldiers, coordinating with local administrations and functional forces to assist residents and remediate disaster consequences.

Under the motto “3 cling, 4 together” (cling to the Party’s guidelines, cling to the locality, cling to the people; eat together, live together, work together, speak the ethnic language together), the provincial Border Guard force’s cadres and soldiers carry out concrete and practical support tasks. From instructing residents in production, aiding disadvantaged households, and caring for students to providing medical examinations, disseminating laws, preventing disasters, and maintaining order, every deed fosters military-civilian solidarity on the frontier. The closeness and empathy of the “green-shoulder-board soldiers” play a vital role in mobilizing each citizen to actively safeguard border lines and boundary markers, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Border Guard to preserve national territorial sovereignty and border security.
