Reading books to better fulfill duties

ĐBP - Midst busy workloads at the grassroots level, officers and soldiers of the Nậm Nèn commune Police still spend time reading books every day. Originating from the model “Youth bookcase for studying and following Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality, and style,” reading books is gradually becoming a habit, helping each officer and soldier elevate knowledge, cultivate self-improvement, and serve the People better.

At the end of each working day, as tasks temporarily subside, a small corner inside the Nậm Nèn Commune Police headquarters sees officers and soldiers sitting down to read. Some look up new legal regulations, others study professional documents, and some select books written about the life, ideology, and style of President Hồ Chí Minh. This has become a familiar image since the unit established the model “Youth bookcase for studying and following Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality, and style.”

Captain Mai Văn Việt, Youth Union Secretary of the Nậm Nèn commune Police, arranges books, newspapers, and documents.

Sub-Lieutenant Đào Hải Đăng shared: “I often take advantage of reading at the end of working hours or during free moments. There were legal regulations or practical situations that I previously did not fully grasp, but after reading additional materials, I hold a firmer grasp and feel more confident when resolving tasks. Brothers in the unit also regularly introduce good books to one another and to local youth union members to read together.”

The model “Youth bookcase for studying and following Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality, and style” was deployed by the Nậm Nèn commune Police Youth Branch in mid-May 2026. The bookcase was built from titles distributed by the Ministry of Public Security, provincial Police, and Youth Unions at all levels, while being regularly supplemented from socialized sources through contributions from officers, union members, organizations, and individuals.

Sub-Lieutenant Đào Hải Đăng from the Nậm Nèn commune Police exchanges useful information from books with local youth union members.

Though not large, the bookcase contains diverse book titles, newspapers, and documents across various fields: law, politics, professional skills, history, culture, and numerous works on President Hồ Chí Minh.

Captain Mai Văn Việt, Youth Union Secretary of the Nậm Nèn commune Police, noted: “The model originates from the requirement to elevate the quality of political theory study, foster revolutionary mettle, ethics, and reading culture among youth union members. Beyond helping elevate professional knowledge, books open up many new perspectives during work. Reading and discussing good contents together also contribute to creating a positive learning environment within the unit.”

Reading and discussing good contents together contribute to creating a positive learning environment at the Nậm Nèn commune Police.

To establish reading as a regular routine, the Nậm Nèn commune Police encourages each officer and soldier to dedicate time to read at least three sessions per week, with each session lasting around 30 minutes. Without placing heavy emphasis on formality or quotas, the key lies in each individual proactively spending time to learn and supplement knowledge from book pages.

According to leaders of the Nậm Nèn commune Police, constructing the bookcase aims not only to supplement work materials, but also to build self-study habits among officers and soldiers. As grassroots-level workloads increase, proactively updating knowledge becomes an essential requirement for every officer. Each book brings beneficial knowledge and experience, helping officers and soldiers elevate professional qualifications and forge mettle to serve the People increasingly well.

The model “Youth bookcase for studying and following Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality, and style” of the Nậm Nèn commune Police features diverse book titles across various fields.

Senior Lieutenant Lò Thanh Hiệp, Head of the Nậm Nèn commune Police, shared: “We hope the bookcase becomes a place where officers and soldiers regularly visit to study and research. In the coming time, the unit will continue adding many new book titles to meet learning needs.”

The model “Youth bookcase for studying and following Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality, and style” is contributing to building self-study and self-cultivation habits among the youth of the Nậm Nèn commune Police. Pages of books not only impart knowledge, but also provide motivation for each officer and soldier to continuously perfect themselves.
