According to the provincial People’s Committee’s plan, during the 2026 crop season, the entire province strives to cultivate 21,290 ha of rice, reaching an average yield of 54.2 quintals/ha and an output of over 115,391 tons. This is an important task facing numerous challenges in the context of unpredictable weather developments, natural disasters, and pests. Therefore, proactively preparing adequate seed sources and appropriate seed structures, along with quality-assured agricultural supplies, is identified as a key solution, building a foundation for the agricultural sector to fulfill its set goals.
Immediately following the conclusion of the winter-spring crop, the agricultural sector directed localities to review the demand for seeds and agricultural supplies for cultivation. Specialized units have enhanced coordination with enterprises supplying seeds, fertilizers, and plant protection chemicals to ensure adequate and high-quality preparations that meet residents’ demands. The agricultural sector also advised localities to arrange seed structures suitable for the conditions of each ecological zone, prioritizing high-yielding, high-quality rice varieties with strong pest resistance and adaptability to adverse weather developments.
Across various localities, preparations for the crop season are being implemented urgently. Cooperatives and agricultural supply agents have proactively stocked up on seed and fertilizer volumes, while coordinating with specialized agencies to guide farmers in choosing suitable varieties and using agricultural supplies technically, economically, and efficiently. Market inspections for agricultural supplies have also been strengthened to promptly detect and handle cases of trading counterfeit or low-quality goods, contributing to protecting the rights of producers.
Thanh Nưa is one of the communes with the largest cultivation acreage in the province. Chu Văn Bách, Chairman of the Thanh Nưa commune People’s Committee, stated that the commune has directed a review of the demands for seeds, fertilizers, and various production supplies, while coordinating with supply units to guarantee adequate and timely goods for the people. Agricultural supply businesses in the area have all committed to supplying products with clear origins and certified quality.
In Quảng Lâm commune, the preparation of supplies serving the 2026 summer-autumn crop production has been deployed early and synchronously. For this year’s crop season, the commune features 446 households across 19 villages registered to cultivate 102 ha of rice. To guarantee sufficient production conditions right from the beginning of the season, the Commune People’s Committee organized the distribution of 15 tons of Hana rice seeds, 25 tons of Lâm Thao organic fertilizer, and 20 tons of synthetic NPK fertilizer, along with various plant protection chemicals according to the registered demands of residents.
As for Nậm Kè commune, the locality organized the allocation of rice seeds, fertilizers, and plant protection chemicals to 469 local households registered for seasonal rice cultivation. The commune executed the distribution of 4.2 tons of Hana and Thiên ưu rice seeds, over 40 tons of NPK and Lâm Thao fertilizers, 30 tons of agricultural lime, 1,800 packets of biological pesticides, 1,800 packets of fungicides, and 1,200 packets of straw-treating products. This timely support helps residents proactively prepare production conditions, ensuring cultivation within the correct seasonal framework.
Based on the soil and climate conditions of the province, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has built a rice seed structure suitable for each region, while orienting each locality to select two to three key varieties, prioritizing short-growth varieties with pest resistance and adaptability to anomalous weather developments. Localities are also encouraged to proactively prepare around 10% of backup seeds in case of natural disasters or re-cultivation needs. This year’s seasonal seed structure is highly diverse, featuring specialty rice varieties like Bắc thơm No.7 and Séng cù, alongside a high-quality rice group including IR64, Hương thơm No.1, J02, HDT10, Hana 112, Đài Thơm, and Tám thơm.
Currently, there are 20 crop seed production establishments and 190 crop seed business establishments operating across the province. In addition to securing seed sources, the supply of fertilizers and plant protection chemicals is also well-prepared. The entire province possesses 571 certified plant protection chemical and fertilizer business establishments as regulated, within which 398 establishments trade both plant protection chemicals and fertilizers, 90 units specialize in plant protection chemicals, and 83 entities focus exclusively on fertilizers.
Nguyễn Văn Hùng, owner of an agricultural supply store in Mường Thanh ward, shared that they have proactively contacted distributors to stock up on fertilizers and plant protection chemicals for the crop season production. The source of goods is currently quite abundant, diverse in types, and quality-guaranteed. The store also regularly advises local farmers on choosing appropriate products, guiding them to use correct dosages and proper techniques to enhance production efficiency, while reducing costs and limiting environmental impacts.
The quality of agricultural supplies is always emphasized by functional authorities. From 2025 to present, specialized agencies have advised on and executed over 20 inspection decisions to evaluate the trading conditions of plant protection chemicals and fertilizers. They have granted or re-granted 149 certificates of eligibility for trading to establishments that meet the required conditions. Inspection work focuses not only on the beginning of the season but is also maintained regularly throughout the production process to promptly detect and prevent the risk of utilizing substandard agricultural supplies.
Presently, residents across the province are entering the 2026 crop season. According to the recommendations of the agriculture and environment sector, localities need to closely follow seasonal frameworks for cultivation. For direct-seeded rice, the early crop is carried out from June 1 to 10, the main crop is completed before June 25, and the late crop concludes before July 5, 2026. For transplanted rice, local authorities should arrange appropriate timelines based on local practical conditions, ensuring a seedling age of 12 to 15 days for field-grown seedlings and 7 to 10 days for tray-grown seedlings.
With proactive preparations regarding seed structures, agricultural supply sources, and synchronized technical solutions, Điện Biên is building a favorable foundation for the 2026 crop season production. When quality seed sources are guaranteed, agricultural supplies are strictly controlled, and residents are fully supported with techniques, the goal of cultivating over 21,290 ha of rice to achieve an output of over 115,000 tons rests on a completely solid ground for realization.
