Digital transformation takes centre stage at MIC delegation meeting with Điện Biên leadership

On October 16, a delegation from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), led by Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Information and Communications, held a working session with the Party Standing Committee of Điện Biên Province.

The meeting was attended by Trần Quốc Cường, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; along with other members of the provincial Party Standing Committee and leaders from various relevant departments.

The session focused on Điện Biên’s socio-economic progress over the first nine months of 2024, with particular emphasis on the information and communications sector.

Minister Hùng’s delegation provided suggestions for enhancing digital transformation in the province, while also boosting its digital economy and society.

Discussions included potential initiatives such as introducing virtual assistant technology for provincial officials, piloting an electronic health record system, rolling out a digital Party member handbook, and transferring 3D mapping technology for the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Panorama.

Further dialogue covered the establishment of a fake news processing centre, training in digital publishing, modernising local radio systems, and improving provincial telecommunications infrastructure.

Additionally, discussions covered the issue of unregistered SIM cards and the expansion of public services for ethnic minority communities.

Minister Hùng emphasised that digital transformation is a nationwide revolution and urged the provincial leadership to adopt a new resolution on digital transformation for the next term. He proposed that digital transformation should become a core responsibility of all party committees, with outcomes included in the evaluations of both committees and leaders.

He also called for more leaders with expertise in digital transformation and for top officials to directly oversee these efforts. To achieve meaningful progress, he stressed the need for breakthroughs and increased budget allocations.

Secretary Trần Quốc Cường expressed his appreciation for the minister’s contributions, promising to overcome challenges and implement the recommendations to make information technology and digital transformation a driving force for Điện Biên’s development.

During the session, the MIC Party Committee and the provincial Party Committee signed a memorandum of cooperation for 2024–26.

Both parties committed to working together to enhance leadership, improve coordination between central and local authorities in the information and communications sector, and ensure the successful execution of their respective duties.

To conclude the session, Secretary Cường presented Minister Hùng with a Commemorative Medal for his contributions to the development of Điện Biên Province.

Chairman Lê Thành Đô also awarded Commemorative Medals to other units for their significant contributions to the province’s digital transformation efforts.
