Lò Văn Cương, a Member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, participated in the meeting along with representatives from several provincial departments and localities.

During the meeting, the representatives of Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P provided an overview of the operations of the group in the sectors of hydropower, wind power, and solar power. The group currently operates in more than 25 countries and has implemented over 2,500 projects globally, primarily in developed nations. The group expressed its desire to seek potential investment areas, and they identified Vietnam as a key market in their development strategy for the upcoming period.

According to the representatives, Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P is researching the possibility of investing in wind and solar power projects with a total expected capacity of approximately 500MW in Điện Biên. They also expressed their hope that the provincial leaders would provide support and create favorable conditions so that the group can soon implement the next steps.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Tiến Dũng expressed his pleasure in welcoming the delegation and welcomed the group to explore the investment environment in Điện Biên province. He informed the delegation that the potential for solar power development in the province could reach approximately 10,000MW. Regarding wind power, Điện Biên is also assessed to have significant room for growth, and several foreign investors have already shown interest and conducted research and surveys.

The Secretary of the provincial Party Committee affirmed that the province is ready to create favorable conditions for interested businesses to conduct surveys and investment research. He also noted the requirement for early implementation to ensure progress while remaining consistent with the planning and socioeconomic development orientation of the local area.

Emphasizing the development orientation of the province, Trần Tiến Dũng stated that renewable energy is an important field that contributes to the effective exploitation of natural conditions and promotes economic restructuring toward a green and sustainable direction. Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) are interested in power grid connection plans in this region, which creates further favorable conditions for project implementation. Previously, several foreign groups surveyed projects with a scale of about 3,000MW, which demonstrates the attractiveness of the renewable energy sector in Điện Biên.

Besides the energy sector, Trần Tiến Dũng mentioned that there are currently no industrial parks in the province, so the group can research the possibility of investing in a green industrial park. Based on the proposals of the delegation, the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee requested the relevant provincial departments to continue coordinating closely to provide information and support the group during its survey process to clarify investment cooperation opportunities.
